Programme 2012

The effect of spaces, objects and media environment plays a central role on the user for later acquirement and should therefore be considered in any planning and design process. The international Summer School "Study of Industrial Ruins – Perception of Space in Architecture and Culture” is therefore designed to focus on a new method of competence in architecture and interior design.

The two-week programme integrates theoretical work phases, development of methodological skills and practical application. With three possible concentrations – firstly on scientific analysis of space, secondly on empirical perception of space, thirdly on artistic-experimental appropriation of space – expertise will be built up through lectures, seminars and workshops. Afterwards this expertise will be applied independently in field studies and trips to selected industrial ruins in the surrounding of the Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences. Two field trips to outstanding revitalizations, Zeche Zollverein Essen and HafenCity Hamburg, complement the programme.
