3. International Summer School of Perception of Space in Architecture and Culture

The 3. International Summer School of Perception of Space in Architecture and Culture (POSIAC) will be held in Istanbul under the theme "Adhocratic Spaces" between the 15.07.14 and 27.07.14.

This year's POSIAC:AS Summer School is specifically dedicated to an urban organism based on emergent spaces without regard for any imposed rules. The city offers a system of flexible and informal organisations also understood as Adhocratic Spaces. The aim is to tackle these Adhocratic Spaces throughout the affordances of urban patterns and behaviours which potentiate an interior resonance.

Adhocratic Spaces can be understood as flexible, adaptable, and informal organizational spatial structures without bureaucratic policies or procedures. In this manner allowing pervasive interiors is to allow for a particular mode of thinking, an adhocratic mode. The significance is that any addition would have to be constrained by a complex relation between adaptive and constant demanded by the pervasive logic. Moreover, it would have to fulfill the role of pervasiveness in interior architecture and that is to allow both for paradigmatic and functional significance. As with any thoughtful process that occurs in design it cannot be disassociated from formal possibilities. The strain is how to reason through adhocratic structures, or how to understand boundary conditions, as boundaries are increasingly digital and immaterial. The conjecture between immaterial and material becomes the focus of pervasive spaces as a mode of understanding boundaries beyond their tacit definition

2. International Summer School

From 15.07. - 26.07.2013 in Lucerne!

Main focus this year: Sensory Living

With the theme Sensory Living, 2013 Summer School is specifically dedicated to interior spaces and regards these as experiential spaces. The aim is to transfer natural patterns to spatial situations in architecture and culture.

1. International Summer School

Study of Industrial Ruins

POSIAC:SIR

„Study of Industrial Ruins – Perception of Space in Architecture and Culture" is the title of the EU-funded international Summer School 2012 at the “Detmolder Schule für Architektur und Innenarchitektur” of the Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences. Participating partner institutions are: Plymouth University (England), Istanbul Technical University (Turkey), Lucerne University (Switzerland) and the Universidade Fumec Belo Horizonte (Brazil).

For two weeks students and their lecturers will apply different instruments and will deal (creatively, sociologically, artistically, etc.) with specific industrial ruins, analyze their impact, and discuss the possibility of space they create. The empirical, theory-based and artistic exploration of the effects of space on its users is still a very young field of science, but its relevance to architecture and interior design cannot be estimated high enough.
